VOLUNTARY FAMILY MAINTENANCE PROGRAM: Remi Vista is heavily involved in California’s Child Welfare Redesign efforts. One major facet of this is our collaboration with Siskiyou County Adult and Children Services Agency’s Voluntary Family Maintenance (VFM) program. The VFM program is designed to provide services for those families who have been identified as being at risk for out-of-home placement. The participants are families whose level of safe functioning and willingness to voluntarily receive services enables the Department to delay and/or forego the filing of a petition to the court for protective custody.
ORGANIZATION: Through the Preserving Safe and Stable Families (PSSF) grant, Remi Vista is able to support the VFM program by providing rehabilitation services, case management, psychotherapy, and psychological evaluations. These services are organized and coordinated by the Regional Director, and supervised by a licensed professional. Specialty mental health services are also made available for eligible families who require such services and whose needs exceed the parameters of the PSSF grant.
PHILOSOPHY: Remi Vista is committed to the provision of services that attempt to prevent out-of-home placements of children. We believe that separating children from their families is traumatic and should be avoided whenever possible. Our method is to respectfully enter into a family system and begin providing leadership from within, addressing needs as perceived by the family but also with an understanding of community standards and values. Remi Vista’s interventions are designed to build on the strengths of families. They are also solution focused and time limited. Our emphasis is to help families become better integrated within their communities by connecting them to helpful resources both formal and informal.
SCHOOL-BASED COUNSELING SERVICES PROGRAM: Remi Vista provides specialty mental health and other counseling services on school campuses in Shasta and Siskiyou Counties. We view these services as a tertiary prevention of problems that result in out-of-home placement.
ORGANIZATION: Remi Vista is an Organizational Provider of specialty mental health services for children referred by school administrators, teachers and counselors. The program is part of the Mental Health Division of Remi Vista.
PHILOSOPHY: As part of Remi Vista’s commitment to prevent out-of-home placement of children, we provide solution-focused, time limited assessment, individual, group and family psychotherapy, targeted case management, and rehabilitation services for youth and families who require such services.
OTHER PREVENTIVE AND AFTERCARE PROGRAMS: In addition to the programs listed above, Remi Vista provides the following programs:
Supported Living Program: Remi Vista is a vendor of Regional Center services to developmentally delayed adults. This is a program that enables such adults to receive the daily support they need to live in their own apartment or home. The broad goal of the supported living program is to enhance the quality of life for each individual by facilitating his/her ability to communicate and pursue interests and a lifestyle that is reflective of his/her personal routines and values. Community integration, building natural supports, and interdependence with community members and services become part of the natural rhythm of their daily living. More specifically, we also believe that people need practical answers to practical problems of life and we are there to assist with issues of daily living such as transportation, finances, employment, housing, and social opportunities. We believe that the development of a “circle of support” enables us to focus with the individual to generate a vision that includes both global and specific needs, and work together to help the individual achieve these goals.
Post-Adoption Services: Remi Vista provides assessment, psychotherapy, case management and rehabilitation services for adoptive families in Siskiyou County through the Preserving Safe and Stable Families grant.
Families Matter: Remi Vista provides an annual family retreat, weekly play therapy groups, and case management services for families who participate in the Families Matter program in Siskiyou County. This program, funded by the Child Abuse Prevention, Intervention, and Treatment (CAPIT) grant, is provided for families identified by other community agencies as being “at risk” for becoming unsafe for children.
Independent Living Program: A program funded by a grant from the Community College Foundation to provide bimonthly courses in independent living skills for foster youth.
